what an amazing dramedy.
especially the first several seasons. so many wonderful characters, it really has something for everyone.
buttery voiced john corbetts seamless radio-narration and its philosophical bent fits right in with a town full of quirky personalities. the indigenous population playing a wonderful straight-man to the town.
it even holds up well. the remoteness denotes a lack of tech that isnt too far out of place today.
this is one of those shows where you just want to be a part of it.
it could also never be replicated/rebooted successfully… lighting striking twice and all that.
anyone else have such fond memories of northern exposure? im about to start my per-decade rewatch.
Around a year ago, we watched the first couple seasons before dropping it in favor of (I think) a WWDITS rewatch.
I loved John Corbett’s radio work, though I never really cared for the music he broadcast or the music of the show itself.
I loved the character who ran the bar and was involved with Shelly in a May-December relationship, and not just because it was the same guy who played Grandpa Big Mike on The Middle.
I hated the doctor. Not like I hated Cersei Lannister, but he was just too whiny for my taste. I didn’t care for Maurice (?) the bigshot former astronaut with no gaydar, he was too much of a blowhard for my taste.
yeah morrow played the doctor as an insufferable jerk. and also with maurice… too hard edged, but i think they needed to generate some of those personalities as an antagonist to the tranquil setting. it could have been done better… more subtle.
