Firing the heads of the TSA and Coast Guard, or meddling with aircraft safety investigation boards, doesn’t translate into anything that would impact ATC controllers at this type of individual level within this type of timeframe.
I would love as much as anybody else to blame this on Trump, but I haven’t seen anything that makes me think this is at all related to Trump. I think it’s just an omen.
It’s hard to say that the hiring freeze and general lack of any positive-side action to fix what was already a problem, would have had any impact within this kind of timeframe, but it could have.
You could also argue the rapid changes and uncertainty of their jobs may have added undue stress and anxiety for ATC workers. Which could contribute to mistakes.
