Some people just need a bogeyman and find them wherever they look (or are told to look).
I suspect we’re eventually going to learn that something was fucking with people’s amygdalas during this era. Could just be the propaganda or maybe it’s something chemical.
I think a lot of it is simply the human brain has a lot of limitations and we push past them on a daily limit. Our brains are wonderful things that allow us to do a lot but when it comes down to it we are simply not meant to be able to connect to so many people at one time. I think that past a certain point it just breaks a lot of peoples brains to learn about so many terrible things so the brain defaults to finding one thing to blame the problem on.
