Interestingly enough, we have been told to eat carbs to keep sugars down, as there has not been enough insulin administered throughout the day and blood sugars will go up anyway.
I’m not a Dr, so my explanation is extra bullshit. Basically, it was easier to regulate the persons’ sugar when they had some carbs.

My understanding from this talk, other talks, and Dr. Bernstein’s work is that the reason for carb loading is to avoid hypoglycemic events, which is easier to do when carb loading (you raising the ceiling and the floor). However on a low carb intervention (after the 6 week adaptation phase) the body is using fat for most systems, so glucose dips are far less likely, and overall glycemic control becomes much better.
If you agree that the less insulin needed the better, the best way to reduce insulin needs is to avoid dietary carbohydrates.
This is why the Low Carb T1D protocol is showing such good results.
