Yeah. It’s about as childish as it gets. People need cars to get to work and that’s about all there is to it in the US. If people don’t want cars, then why don’t they do something productive like design better public transit and lobby for better city setups which don’t require vehicle transportation, or something along those lines? But because it’s hard to do things that make a difference, they instead sit there and complain about “fuck cars” which does nobody any good.

At some point, there was this shift where the technology was no longer being designed to benefit the user, but to benefit the creator. The problem is that the creators are now trillion-dollar multi-national organizations who also lobby against my wellbeing and safety in areas of rulemaking and regulation. So now I am fine foregoing the “technology” whenever I can.

It’s obvious for several people on this list, but how do I boycott someone like the Oracle guy? As a non-tech guy, it just seems impossible. I don’t even recognize several of these people, tbh.

Yeah, 100% the cop’s fault. If a person feels it’s better to shoot an innocent bystander in the head than risk being stabbed, then they’re in the wrong line of work. Get out and let someone with better judgement have a go.

Forgotten benefits of gasoline: you can fix it yourself and you’re not locked into a shiny new consumerist downward spiral that demands you buy a new vehicle every ten years when the car can’t go 200 miles in a single charge anymore? And the next guy who gets the battery powered vehicle is just worse off than you were, as the poorer along us suffer even worse condition vehicles and the risk of massive expenses in the way of new battery failure. Why is nobody concerned with the fact that batteries are going to lock us into excess and unavoidable consumerism as they degrade? Engines -might- fail, but batteries -will- fail.

List one battery powered device that isn’t basically disposable.

The other guy is being dumb. He’s trying to tell people what they do and don’t need, and that’s not going to work; especially when you are considering people who are stuck on ICE cars for the exact reasons you’re saying.

I love my ICE vehicle, but I’ve said many times that I’d consider a battery powered vehicle when I can get 500+ mile range. The last thing I’m going to do is allow myself be inconvenienced by something I don’t care about, and this is the story here. I’m passionate about my WRX, but I could never be passionate about a battery and electric motors. When I switch, it’ll only be because the benefit is incredible and undeniable. People will simply not convince me that a 300 mile range in optimal conditions is going to suit me, because things never play out like the paper specs say.

I dunno if it’s an optical illusion, but I feel like you can see the tracks buckling under the wheels on account of the incredible weight.

If YouTube were an independent company, I would be much happier to pay like I do for Spotify and even (borderline) Paramount Plus. I have no problem paying artists for their time, and I have spent thousands and thousands on commissions and merchandise from independent people and art businesses. Google already has enough money. I would rather save my money for small(er) companies who actually need it.

If people stopped supporting these ultra-consolidated megacorporations, we might have a healthier economy and better worker’s rights overall. But what do I know lol

Dude, I’m a furry. Most of my friends are gay, trans, or some form of LGBTQ+ or non-binary who do not conform to typical gender or societal stereotypes.

Silly comment. I prefer female doctors because I like their personalies better, and I believe that their medical knowledge is equal to a male doctor’s knowledge. It’s also less weird to me to be touched by a member my preferred gender. My reasons are absolutely not related to any clinical reasoning.

You’re just choosing to be outraged for the sake of drama. I’m sorry if one person in your past has called you a “female” offensively, but lets consider moving on from it.

It’s just a word. It’s not a slur.

The word “woman” is not any better, and even has its own issues with preconceptions. Every time you come across someone who is trying to be stereotypically traditional and enforce any idea of classic societal gender roles, they refer to themselves as a MAN or a WOMAN.

Because I generally interact with people who are uncomfortable being assigned traditional gender roles, it’s more comfortable to think of them as their biological sex–male or female, so that I am not projecting gender stereotypes on them

I’m in my 30s and I’ve never met a single person in my entire life who refers to women as “the females”. I work in a highly male-dominated field full of country boys, for reference.

I will never understand the drama over the word “female”.

I set up a doctor’s appointment the other day, and I was asked if I had a doctor preference. I responded and said “I’d prefer a female doctor.” According to the internet, apparently I should have asked for a “woman doctor”.

Reversing the gender, I’d be asking for either a “male doctor” or a “man doctor”. I will literally never use the phrase “I’d prefer a man doctor, please.” Because it has weird connotations, and doesn’t even roll off the tongue as well.

So because I believe in male/female equality, I am necessarily required to treat them the same, with similar varieties of words.

So what’s the problem? Give me a reason why I should use the less technical versions of words that invoke social-gender-stereotypes when I want to avoid all of that entirely.
