Trditional plaster casts have remained unchanged for largely over a century
Um, first of all I haven’t seen a plaster cast in 40 years, they’ve been fiberglass at least that long, which means they weigh 1/4 of a plaster cast.
Second, we’ve been using other braces instead, like plastics with Velcro wraps that can be removed to clean a wound or just the skin.
I don’t trust when people are disingenuous about current state of things to promote their solution as so much better.

Know what prevents glass screens from breaking? Put it in a body that prevents stresses from reaching the glass.
You know, an aluminum frame for the glass part, and that aluminum in a plastic body.
I have three ancient Galaxy S4’s that are all plastic - the bodies are beat to shit but the glass is fine. The plastic took the abuse and didn’t transfer it to the glass.

This is why mobile systems just can’t do desktop. Heat dissipation is a real issue when you’re trying to do more.
Way too expensive? For a year’s worth of hosted storage (at 1TB) you’d get multiple years of home storage, have it fully controlled by you.

As I’ve said elsewhere, they make even overpowered FWD cars with an open diff go, turn, and stop even in icy conditions.

Philosophically it’s bereft.
Clarke dropped the ball on this one, I don’t know how (and I’ve been a huge Clarke fan since about 1980).
In 2001 Clarke acts as if the philosophical ideas he proposes are all new, when they were tropes by the time he wrote 2001.
Its a visually stunning movie that gets space travel right. I’ve seen it, I’ve read the book (multiple times as I wrote a paper on its’ Emperor’s New Clothes phenomenon).
Walk-outs during the screenings were common, because there’s nothing there.
I don’t recommend it to anyone without massive caveats.
And planes reach their higher speeds only at altitude where density is lower
