  • Yep. I was enlisted in the navy. I’ve seen this pipeline over and over on Facebook

Hate the Navy, Joe Rogan Phase, Hate the Government, Jordan Peterson Phase, Becomes sexist and undateable, Become libertarian, Be smarter and better than everyone else, Diet racism, Conspiracy theories, Angry and isolated because of their shitty beliefs, Digs in more and lives to argue, Lost their fucking mind

It’s sad watching genuinely decent people become angry, scared, and isolated. You can’t even feel bad for them because of how insufferable they become.

I am a DOE licensed nuclear power plant operator. I worked in the engine room of an aircraft carrier for 4 years. I have received an insane amount of training on TMI.

TMI is terrifying, but not for the reasons people think. The qualified operators of the plant were fucking idiots. They didn’t understand that they had reached saturation conditions in the primary loop. Basically, they created a steam bubble where water should have been. They didn’t understand this. They have all the training and experience required to work the water boiling factory and they didn’t understand water boiling. They assumed that their instruments were malfunctioning, that they knew better. If they were in a more serious casualty situation with their incompetence and egos it would have been a disaster.

Brushing off the incident at three mile island as “just a little leak” completely misses the point. Three Mile Island proves that Chernobyl wasn’t just communist incompetence. It can happen anywhere.

  • I was a nuclear operator in the Navy. Here are the actual reasons:

    1. The designs are classified US military assets
    2. They are not refuleable
    3. They only come in 2 “sizes”: aircraft carrier and submarine
    4. They are not scaleable. You can just make a reactor 2x as big
    5. They require as much down time as up time
    6. They are outdated
    7. The military won’t let you interrupt their supply chain to make civilian reactors
    8. New designs over promise and underdeliver
    9. They are optimized for erratic operations (combat) not steady state (normal power loads)
    10. They are engineered assuming they have infinite sea water available for everything

There’s more but that’s just off the top of my head

Thank you. Every time “why don’t they teach taxes in school?” comes up I want to pull my hair out. All most people have to do is copy about 10 numbers from their w2 into 10 boxes on their 1040ez, do elementary school math, and sign. That’s it. If you attended 2nd grade you learned all of this.
