You’re gunna do whatever you are gunna do. But let me just say this.

Your heart is in the right place, but this is a bad idea. You’d essentially be taking responsibility for mentally unwell people who are in a devastating position.

You’d open the door for emotionally starved people to latch onto you, and possibly threaten you for not answering them when they snap their fingers. Or feel suicidal at whatever time of day that is and in whatever time zone that is.

I’m wishing you the best just proceed with caution I just… oh man…

100% agree. That’s the reason why I wouldn’t want to mod it: When I have to step away from it for my own well being, it has the potential to seriously affect someone elses. I don’t want to put myself 8n that situation.

…did you just ask yourself a question, get confused, and then reply to yourself???

Should I give you MY username???

People who do this professionally, or even as a volunteer, receive training for a reason. It is likely one could hurt more than help, despite the best intentions.

Maybe try signing up for a hotline? They’ll give you the training required to at least give a solid attempt as well as more rationally limit the amount of people you feel obligated to handle.

Also, these sorts of things are often community based because suicide resources are often themselves community based. When you get trained for those things, you also get trained to know what community based resources are available for people.

I don’t think I have the time or experience to effectively mod something like that. Good luck though it sounds like a noble cause!

Wait…this is a bit vague. Help them get through their feelings? Or help them commit suicide? This could be taken either way.

If you’re in the hospital due to follow-ons to mental health issues, it might be better to get involved with an unrelated topic instead of one that keeps you mired in those same issues.

That said, there is no technical knowledge required to moderate a community. There are just some extra links you can click to delete messages, pin them, etc. The main difficulties are dealing with humans, and in your proposed community, possibly mentally disturbed humans with high potential for putting themselves and maybe others in danger. I would start in a less challenging area.

With my social skills, and empathy, I’m pretty sure it would end up with more suicides, not less.
