I wonder how many furniture stores there are in the world with the name Ottoman Empire.

I recently found out that when the Ottoman Empire collapsed and they became Turkiye, they removed all the Persian and Arabic words from the Turkish language.

Imagine if after Brexit the English removed all the German and French words from their language.

I think English would break. It’s like half German derived words and half French/Romance language words wrapped in a Germanic grammatical structure.

Apparently turkish was the same way. They can no longer understand any songs or books or anything written from before 1919

Because the bird was originally named after the country, I have decided to update what I call the bird as well to match.

That’s the thing about civilizational collapse, they seldom go away, they just change forms.
