Gulper eel said, “I can’t see shit down here. So I’m just going to swim around with my mouth open, and I’m just going to call whatever gets in there lunch.”
To which evolution replied, “Bet?”
Orca. They’re just too damn cool, and they refuse to eat humans for some unknown reason. They, as a species, literally eat anything else that dares to enter their water including polar bears.
I personally maintain that some Orca took out an elderly or young human at some point, and the villagers responded by wiping out the entire pod of orca except for a traumatized survivor that told the rest of the orcas that they shouldn’t ever eat the angry hairless monkeys, and the species has remembered for tens if not hundreds of thousands of years.
No love for iron snails?
Batfish.
That’s batfish insane.
The Nautilus. I just think they are neat!
All hail Lord Helix!
Wow. Forgot about that.
All of them. There’s so many.
Sunfish. Vampire squid. Blob fish. That terrifying worm that hides. Pistol shrimp.
It’s a whole new world down there. Forget Mars!
Lung fish, black fish, alligator, Ice fish.
Armour head, hammer head, anaconda, flat head.
Manta ray, stingray, fang-tooth moray.
Goblin shark, grass carp, round-river-bat ray.Noodle fish, hag fish, man o’ war, lady fish.
Black eel, baby seal, sprat, koi, electric eel.
Lamprey, pejerey, yellow-edged moray.
Salmon shark, sleeper shark, featherback and eagle ray.We didn’t start the current!
It was always flowin’
Since the Earth’s been slowin’
We didn’t start the fire
Angler Fish
I was team Angler Fish when I got here but damn, there are some good candidates mentioned!
All octopodes are good octopodes.
Greenland sharks have the longest lifespan of any known vertebrate, estimated to be between 250 and 500 years. They are among the largest extant shark species, reaching a maximum confirmed length of 6.4 m (21 ft) long and weighing over 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). They reach sexual maturity at about 150 years of age, and their pups are born alive after an estimated gestation period of 8 to 18 years.
Absolutely everything about them is interesting. And as far as an entity, they are a fantastic role model. The world would be a much better place if we were all more like the Greenland Shark.
Imagine being pregnant for 18 years…
That is pretty cool
I wonder if they get cramps or sickness?
Oarfish give me a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach, they’re so cool
Cephalopods of all kinds are fabulous, but it’s a crime I haven’t seen siphonophores here.
Cuttlefish
Someday, cuttlefish will start the plan to take over the world in june 28th, 2025.
I don’t have one, but now I’m thinking about it
The unexamined life is not worth living.
Then do orcas count? Because I just can’t think of anything from the depths I find that interesting, things just move so slow down there
But I have orca facts for days
Are you thinking about just those little bottom feeder guys on the sea floor? The deep sea has really fascinating creatures that you likely are very familiar with like the great white shark, vampire squid, ocean sunfish, giant squid, and the black seadevil! I dunno how deep orcas can dive, but maybe they do count as deep sea creatures if they spend a lot of time down there.
If great white sharks count I think orcas would too
But yeah… Those are cool and all, but it’s like asking me what my favorite kind of flower is. I see how they look cool, I see how others might get excited for them, but I’m just not that interested in them
But orcas have many different languages and cultures. They swim across entire oceans. Some of them started sinking yahts (for what I’m convinced is based on understanding which humans are destroying the world), but they never harm humans (outside of the ones driven insane by confinement)
They might actually be smarter than us, their brains are the most wrinkly in the world. They could have oral traditions going back as far as human history
Yeah. I was torn on blood squid or just the straight up octopus or the angler fish but like idk and idc
What about the headless chicken fish?
Whats the scientific term for that oceangate thing that sploaded with all the billionaires?
Karma?
Siphonophores. Extremely alien looking colonial organisms. Iirc they are, by far, the longest known aquatic creatures.
Bruh siphonophores are so fascinating.
