Just made an account here ten minutes ago. The format feels weird but it’s nice to be able to continue talking like sensible people without getting banned for it. Feels good, man.
If it’s any help, I use the sync app on android. I also used sync for reddit prior to the API thing which finally made me leave, so my experience is pretty much the same in terms of format. I agree it can feel weird in a browser but there’s a bunch of good mobile apps that might feel more familiar.
Just FYI the dev abandoned the app and core features still break when the new instance updates take place. Not to mention:

Basically yes. The alternatives passively become better simply because of the mainstream option becoming worse over time. I think it’s still going too slowly in general but I’m not complaining, better slow than not at all.
Better slow than too fast too. Lemmy feels like a nice fairly small community. I’m not sure that’ll continue once it’s the size of Reddit. We’ll get more content and niche communities will be better served though, so there’s pros and cons.
Once you hit a certain size you become a tempting target for bots, spammers and trolls. Managing that is going to be a challenge.
Not quite… It’s easiest to game on Windows still. I’d love to move to Linux, though. But, alas, this year is not your year still. Crucify me if you wish, but this is the truth. So say a simple gamer that knows more than you do if you’re peddling Linux as the best option in early 2025.

I miss being able to interact with certain smaller subreddits for particular interests, but that’s about it.

There was no doubt these were ruzzians, because after a couple of tit-for-tat comments, they use terms like “we” when talking about ruzzias invasion of Ukraine. They all knew what Yandex was without asking or querying it, as a non ruzzian would. In some comments I explained why ruzzia is a third world shithole country, because I’ve been there. I told a couple to go dig babushka a fresh latrine pit, and a couple others how good they’d look fertilizing sunflowers in Kursk Woke up today, and I’ve been permanently banned “for inciting violence”. Reddit is a hive full of ruzzian trolls and bots, and the moderators appear to support them. I don’t think I’ll bother creating another account lol.

Permabanned after nearly 12 years. Forgive me for hating Nazi’s. I’d made the statement fuck all Nazi’s but six several times but this time was this time I got automod flagged. They are pretty much flagging the word Nazi regardless of context or overall statements made. The same goes for the word Luigi. Also, Karma is basically useless considering downvoting too much can also lead to a ban. It is pretty ridiculous. I’d never been banned once for any reason except for the last 6 months where I’ve been sub banned or gotten 3-7 day bans several times for making points about the sorry state of affairs in America lately.
