Liberalism makes it impossible to distinguish between liberatory nationalism of an oppressed nation and chauvinistic nationalism of an imperialist nation.[1] Because both sentiments can be described by the same word, nationalism, and ideas are more important than the material world, both must be equally good or bad.
Maybe with the exception of Scotland there, which if a leftist supports their independence it’s probably more because they want to make the UK weak rather than applying the usual reasoning on the National Question. ↩︎

I would like to weaken the UK, for sure, but considering the long history of Scottish struggle for independence from English domination I’m also curious as to how they’d be, free of said domination. Maybe I’m making too many assumptions but I think Scottish logic for a long while has been of the “well if you can’t beat 'em” flavor, which isn’t moral but they wouldn’t be the first to make that calculation.
They benefitted a lot from British imperialism whether or not they joined by their own volition.
Also they tried to do a colonialism in Central America. They failed at it, but they still tried.
True, indeed quite a lot of people did, especially if they were white-presenting, straight, male, and Protestant.
That said, I like to think that free of the struggle against domination by their Anglo neighbors they might make perhaps more moral decisions. Unfortunately a lot of peoples are drawn into immorality by a desire to survive.
Liberals look at the “nationalists” Adolf Hitler and Thomas Sankara and can’t tell the difference.
I can’t convey how much disgust this fills me with

Ironically liberalism seems to have no problem distinguishing between nationalism and patriotism even tho the later is just a weasel word for the former
Using AI to generate a map of indigenous territories is diabolical dude
You don’t like it when the fascists have guns, but you seem to have no problem with antifascists having guns, how curious
