minus-squaresurewhynotlem@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up63arrow-down6·3 days agoIf you think you can make something not bland with just butter, salt and pepper, you may be a Brit.

minus-squareDave@lemmy.nzlinkfedilinkarrow-up25·3 days agoFat and salt are the key ingredients in most fried food, so it’s basically deep fried bread.
minus-squarekadu@scribe.disroot.orglinkfedilinkarrow-up22·3 days ago Fat and salt are the key ingredients in most fried food, If we ignore the literal food being fried, yes
minus-squareDave@lemmy.nzlinkfedilinkarrow-up9·3 days agoThe food being fried is mostly carbs - that’s the bread.

minus-squarePunnyName@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up8·2 days agoHomemade bread with just butter and salt is fucking awesome.
minus-squareZiglin (it/they)@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·2 days agoOr a German to be honest. They eat just bread with butter. (no toast between!)
minus-squarecaptainlezbian@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up4·2 days agoYes, but their bread is good and rough. No idea how their butter is
minus-squareZiglin (it/they)@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·2 days agoNot good enough for me to be willing to eat bread with just butter.
minus-squarecaptainlezbian@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·1 day agoAh, then you gotta get german bread with french or Irish butter. Maybe throw in a side of pomegranate and/or cheese. Great way to start your day

minus-squareRecallMadness@lemmy.nzlinkfedilinkarrow-up5·2 days agoThe crunch of the toast vs the softness of the bread. The saltiness and richness of the butter against the spice of the pepper. It’s got contrast across two food metrics! Beats the shit out of PB&Js, and you don’t get peanut fragments stuck in your teeth. It’s poverty food (for when butter didn’t cost $20/kg), but it’s not half bad.
minus-squarecaptainlezbian@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up5·2 days agoPeanut butter is perfect and I’ll die on that hill. My country’s cheap combination of pulses and bread is much better than yours! That said you need unsweetened peanut butter and unsweetened bread, both of which can be difficult to find in the us
